Exploring the Oasis Camel Dairy in San Diego

First, it’s a Wednesday when I am writing this blog, so Happy Humpday! Yeah - I got jokes. So, you can’t make it all the way to the desserts of Egypt to experience camels? I got you!

If you're looking for a unique and off-the-beaten-path experience, I've got a gem to share with you today. I recently visited Oasis Camel Dairy for an agro-tour, an enchanting destination nestled in Ramona (San Diego) California. This hidden oasis offers visitors a chance to connect with nature and learn about camel farming. Let’s jump into the information!

The Oasis Camel Dairy: A Hidden Gem in San Diego:

The Oasis Camel Dairy is truly a hidden gem in San Diego - it stands as an oasis right in Southern California! It was established over twenty years ago by owners, Gil and Nancy Riegler, as America’s first camel dairy. The Rieglers raise and care for over 26 one-hump camels, otherwise known as the Dromedary. To learn facts about their camels, visit their webpage that answers the top 10 most common camel questions here.

Camel Encounters:

The highlight of my visit, of course, was the chance to interact with these magnificent creatures. The camels at the Oasis Camel Dairy are not just livestock; they're family members, and their well-being is top priority.

Visitors can take guided tours to meet and greet the camels up close. You'll have the opportunity to learn about their behaviors, their care, and their vital role in the ecosystem. And yes, you can even give them apple treats on a stick or pose for a selfie!

Camel Milk Products:

The Oasis Camel Dairy is also known for its camel milk products. Camel milk, with its unique nutritional profile, has gained popularity in recent years. At the on-site store, you can purchase camel milk soap, lotion, and even chocolate made from camel milk.

Planning a Visit to Oasis Dairy Farm:

Located just a short drive from Palm Springs or Orange County or Los Angeles, California, the Oasis Camel Dairy is conveniently accessible. Whether you're traveling by car or prefer a guided tour, the journey through the desert is as captivating as the destination itself. As you approach, you'll notice the landscape transforming from urban to arid, a precursor of the adventure that awaits.

What’s Around the Area of the Oasis Camel Dairy?

Want to make a weekend out of your visit? I recommend staying at the unique Red Tail Ranch, San Diego. You can read all about my recent stay at this cabin and meeting the ranch animals (highland cows, donkeys, goats, emus and more) in my recent blog post here, that also includes recommendations for places to visit in the nearby town of Julian.
